What can I cook with rice and vegetables?
Choose a ginger vegetable bowl for dry rice, or egg fried rice for rice that has already been safely chilled. The right method depends on storage as much as ingredients.
Choose a recipe for what you have
Ginger vegetable rice bowl
Fresh rice, broccoli, carrots and chickpeas suit a meal built from dry cupboard staples.
Vegetable and egg fried rice
Use safely chilled rice with eggs and peas; this is a single-reheat meal.
Courgette and pea pasta
If rice is unavailable or was stored unsafely, use pasta with the courgette and peas instead.
Practical things to check
- Dry rice gives you a fresh bowl with no cooling step: follow the packet and serve hot. For fried rice, use rice cooled quickly, ideally within 1 hour, then refrigerated for no more than 24 hours.
- Cut dense carrots thinly and add them before softer greens. A covered splash of water helps broccoli soften without burning the ginger.
- Chickpeas make a rice bowl more substantial; eggs suit fried rice. Neither substitution is an allergy guarantee, and soy sauce may contain wheat as well as soy.
These are starting points rather than an allergy-safe meal plan. Check the full recipe and ingredient labels before choosing an idea for your household or guests.
